Our first long haul event of 2020 saw Fairways visit Mexico & the wonderful Moon Palace resort. The golf was played over two “Jack Nicklaus” signature courses, the 27 hole “Moon” complex & the thrilling Riviera-Cancun club just a short drive away.
After round 1 the low handicap duo of Malcolm & Elsbeth Morton, playing off 5 & 9 respectively, led with 37 points. In second place just 1 shot behind was Paul & Christine Wright.
Round 2 saw us visit the Riviera-Cancun club for the first time. The course was in immaculate condition playing through holes cut out of the native jungle & close to the Caribbean Sea. There was a wonderful array of wildlife to view with crocodiles, armadillos & many colourful birds. Many of our players managed to concentrate enough on the golf to produce some great scores. At the end of the day Peter & Julie Morgan shot a fantastic 41 points with Patrick & Christine Moylan in second place on 39 points.
Round 3 & back at “Moon” with the conditions now hot & blustery, the ever reliable pair of Tony & Louise Fisher came to the fore to win the day with 42 points, pipping the now in-form Peter & Julie Morgan by 1 point.
For round 4 and our final game at Riviera-Cancun saw our best day of scoring. After 3 previous steady rounds, Paul & Christine Wright produced the round of the week with a magnificent 45 points. Hot on their heels just 1 shot back was Peter & Julie Morgan & in third with 43 points was Jonathon & Anna Sisson.
The final round back at “Moon” saw the wind at it’s strongest all week. Coming out on top on the day was Vince Hooker & Angela Mander beating Peter Ogden & Debbie Jary on countback, both pairs scoring a magnificent 41 points.
The final tally after the 5 rounds were added up saw the top 3 pairs separated by only 2 shots.
The winners who were consistent all week, with a total of 191 points was Malcolm & Elsbeth Morton, second Tony & Louise Fisher & third Peter & Julie Morgan.
Congratulations to all our winners and thank you to Palace & Riviera resorts for hosting us & presenting both courses in such wonderful condition.
