Terre Blanche Mixed Pairs

Just 25 miles inland from the swish coastal town of Cannes, lies the No.1 ranked golf resort in Continental Europe, Terre Blanche. Spread out on a hillside, accommodation consists of small villas built amongst beautiful scented botanical gardens. The whole place oozes style, sophistication and an ocean of serenity.

Day 1

After the group had met at registration the previous evening, they woke on the first morning to brilliant sunshine and the forecast set to hit 30 degrees. After breakfast our couples took the short buggy ride down the hillside to the 1st tee of Le Chateau. Opened in 2000 the course has consistently ridden high in the European rankings and in the Top 10 layouts in France. With tree-lined fairways and water hazards in play on many of the holes, bunkering and fast sloping greens, the player truly experiences the playing conditions of a championship course.

As hot as the weather, 3 couples scorched their way around to post fantastic scores. John & Barbara Taylor played beautifully to card 42pts. The ever consistent Howard & Hilary Ashton went 1 better to sign for 43pts but just pipping them on countback to take the lead on Day 1 was Matt & Angie Harrison.

A quite stunning group dinner was enjoyed in the evening Al fresco style while some enjoyed the wines from the local region of Provence maybe a little too much.

Day 2

We were greeted by another glorious day for the group to take on the Le Riou course at Terre Blanche. This layout is only open to members and residents of the resort and is a totally different examination to Le Chateau. Shorter in length than its sister, it demands much more accuracy off the tee with many of the holes dog-legging with placement rather than distance the key to scoring well. The course meanders up upon the hillside offering wonderful views over the Provencal villages.

The first pair to take advantage of the perfect conditions were Phil Luke & Many Broome. The duo from The Forest of Arden G.C. set the pace when they returned to the clubhouse and posted 39pts. Our overnight leaders and 3rd place pairs were playing together and it was proving to be a ding-dong battle. Both teams were continuing their fine play from the day before and there was nothing to separate them as they played the last.

After checking both cards, Matt & Angie Harrison signed for a wonderful 41pts but their playing partners John & Barbara Taylor had taken the spoils by just 1 point firing the best score of the day total of 42pts. This left both couples tied at the top of the leaderboard heading in to the final round.

Day 3

After a well earned days rest, the group returned to play the final round on the championship Le Chateau course. Now knowing their way around and not a breathe of wind, the potential to shoot a good score and move up the leaderboard was a real possibility.

In the first group out, joint leaders Matt & Angie Harrison played flawless golf  dove-tailing beautifully and signed off their campaign with a “best of the week” score of 43pts. Would any of our leaders be able to catch the Walmley duo? Phil & Mandy returned with their best score of the week a brilliant 42pts. John & Barbara, joint overnight leaders, couldn’t quite match their fine form of the previous 2 rounds.

Howard & Hilary once again returned to form after a disappointed 2nd round and signed off with a brilliant 43pts. After both “best of the day” cards were checked it came down to the very last hole on countback with the West Hill pair taking the spoils for the final round.

After the dust had settled we had clear winners. Matt & Angie who had lead throughout the week came out on top by 7 points. Many congratulations to them both as they proved hard work and dedication pays off in this game.

In the evening we once again enjoyed a incredible group dinner with much fun and laughter as we toasted the new “Terre Blanche Mixed Pairs” Champions.

Terre Blanche is truly a stunning resort. It rightly deserves its position as the premier destination in Europe. It was an easy decision for us to re-book which we have for September 2024. We are already counting down the days to our return.
